Plexiglass: (Trademark of Rohm & Haas Co.)
Plexiglass is commonly called acrylic glass, simply acrylic or perspec. The material was developed in 1928 and was marketed in 1933. Plexiglass is often used as an alternative glass. It is often preferred because of its moderate properties, easy handling and processing, and low cost, but behaves in a brittle manner when loaded, especially under an impact force. Plexiglass is used for a wide variety of applications such as residential window glazing, boat windshields, furniture protectors, residential and commercial aquariums, automobile light lenses, aircraft windows and certain light house windows. Plexiglass sheets are commonly used in the sign industry to manufacture flat cut-out letters in varying thicknesses.
